Equality Forum Home - Issues - Past Minutes/Reports

Welcome to East Lothian Equality Forum.

Talking about, and helping to advise, on local and national policy affecting people with physical disability or visual impairment is our concern. If we get hot under the collar about matters important to us, we can let off some steam to the powers that be and try to get something done.

It doesn't matter whether you're directly affected, a carer, or service provider, you're welcome to lend your voice. We need to speak. We need to be heard. This is where it happens.

Have Your Say on Day Activities

ELCCF's community action research team has put together and sent out a questionnaire to find out what day activities outside the home people with physical disabilities and sensory impairment get up to - and what they'd like to do.

Although primarily for those in the 16-65 age group, the views of every disabled person will be appreciated.

We want to find out about day activities - social, recreational, educational or vocational - and any you might want to do. We want to gather views from service users and carers on the kinds of support needed.

The questionnaire is designed for you and any unpaid carers, such as family members or friends, to fill in together.

Responses need to be returned to ELCCF by April 26.

Disabled parking

Issues:

is a hot topic and one which always raises temperatures. A stern look just isnt enough for people who take up disabled parking spaces and what do the supermarkets do about it?.

Respite care is also a popular issue. Theres a great demand for local services to meet local needs. Either at home or away, some carers have not had time off for many years.

Activities: There should be more disability awareness at leisure centres and everywhere.

Transport: How can I get out? How can I socialise with limited times and services. I cant just jump on a bus or a taxi and what if Im with my carer. Not to mention, how can I afford it?
